A couple of months ago I started my latest venture and my hope is that this will be turn out to be the big one. WoollyGerbil Studios is a software and design house whose objective is to create compelling digital experiences for its customers. What does this mean? Well to begin, I’ll tell you what it doesn’t mean. WGS is not a digital media contractor. We’re not interested in creating experiences that have been imagined by other companies. There’s two primary reasons for this. The first is that there are already plenty of perfectly competent incumbents working in this field who can deliver top quality services. If you’d like help finding any of these, drop me a line, and I’d be happy to help. The second is that we believe great innovation undoubtedly comes from determination and competence – but perhaps most importantly, it is obtained through a process of trial and error that only the luxury of time can provide. As such, were WGS to be servicing the needs of its contract customers, it wouldn’t have the capacity to pursue great innovation and design. It is an existential issue for us. Without this affordance and structure, we can’t do what we have set out to do.
In the coming months, we will be presenting the first of our experiments in VR, AR, web and mobile innovation. And we promise that design will only always be the kingmaker.
